Different jobs

Descript is a full editor where you cut video by editing its transcript. It has Underlord, an AI co-editor, plus Studio Sound, filler-word removal, AI speech with voice clones, and a Create Clips tool for highlights. It runs as a desktop app on macOS and Windows and in a browser at web.descript.com.

Vidulk does one part of that job: turning long videos into short, captioned, vertical clips. The AI finds and scores the moments, and the editor focuses on short-form output: 65 caption styles, auto-reframe on faces, four aspect ratios, a hook title card, progress bar, logo and music with ducking.

Pricing

Descript Hobbyist is $24 a month, or $16 billed yearly, with 10 media hours and 400 AI credits a month and 1080p export. Creator is $35, or $24 yearly, with 30 media hours and 4K. Business is $65, or $50 yearly. The free plan gives 60 media minutes a month, 100 one-time AI credits and 720p export with a watermark.

Vidulk Unlimited is $9.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $179 a year on the web, with no hour cap on clipping, and credits are $7 for one video.

Where Descript is stronger

For full-length editing, audio cleanup, voice work and teams, Descript does far more. Vidulk has no transcript-based editing of full episodes, no AI voices, no avatars, no stock library and no collaboration. Descript also has a free plan, and Vidulk has no free clipping.

If your goal is a steady stream of shorts from episodes you already published, Vidulk is faster and cheaper. Start at vidulk.com/app.

Who should pick which

Choose Descript if you produce the long episode itself: recording, cleanup, editing by transcript and publishing, often with a team. Choose Vidulk if the episode is done and you want a steady supply of shorts from it. Many podcasters use a full editor for the episode and a clipping tool for the shorts.

On Vidulk, paste the episode's YouTube link or upload the file, and the AI returns scored clips with captions. You can set clip lengths yourself, edit caption text and timing, and export 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 for each platform. If you only clip now and then, a credit costs $7 per episode.

Switching from Descript to Vidulk

  3. Export the finished episode from Descript, or paste its YouTube link, and let Vidulk find the clips.
  4. Let the AI pick the moments or set clip lengths yourself, then adjust captions, layout, hook title and music in the editor.
  5. Export in 720p, 1080p or 4K and post. Buy a $7 credit to test one video before you commit to Unlimited.

Vidulk works on iPhone, Android and the web with one account.
