What each app is for

Captions, from Mirage, is an AI video editor for people who film themselves. Its paid plans add AI Edit styles, AI avatars and digital twins, a chat-based editor, AI translation and lip dub, and generated B-roll, music and images. It also has Clips, which turns long videos into ranked short clips. Its help docs place Clips on the web, with files up to 3 hours and 10GB or a YouTube or public link.

Vidulk focuses on clipping and short-form editing: AI-found moments, 65 caption styles, auto-reframe on faces, four aspect ratios, a hook title card, progress bar, logo, music with ducking and 4K export, on phone and web.

Pricing

Captions Max is $24.99 a month and Frontier is $69.99 a month, with higher Frontier tiers at $139.99 and $279.99. Captions notes that these are iOS plan prices. Plans run on AI credits, and unused credits roll over up to three times your monthly allowance. A free version includes basic tools such as trimming and transitions.

Vidulk Unlimited is $9.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $179 a year on the web, with no clipping cap. Credits are $7 for one video or $19 for ten.

Android and where Captions is stronger

On Android, Captions offers Captions Lite, which its help center describes as essential manual video editing, with projects stored locally. Vidulk's Android app is the same product as on iPhone and the web, with one account.

Captions is far ahead on generative AI: avatars, dubbing, lip sync and generated media. Vidulk has none of these. If you want AI to clip long recordings and style the captions, try Vidulk at vidulk.com/app.

Who should pick which

Choose Captions if you record talking-head videos, ads or UGC on your phone and want AI to edit, translate or even generate them. Choose Vidulk if you already have long content, such as podcasts, streams, interviews or YouTube videos, and need it cut into many short clips each week.

Captions lists captions in 100+ languages and 100+ caption templates on paid plans. Vidulk has 65 caption styles with custom fonts, colors, highlights and animations. Vidulk credits never expire, so occasional use costs $7 per video rather than a monthly plan.

Switching from Captions to Vidulk

  1. Download any clips you want to keep from Captions first.
  2. Sign in at https://www.vidulk.com/app/login with Apple or Google, or install the iPhone or Android app and use the same account.
  3. Paste the YouTube link or upload the long video you would have sent to Captions Clips.
  4. Let the AI pick the moments or set clip lengths yourself, then adjust captions, layout, hook title and music in the editor.
  5. Export in 720p, 1080p or 4K and post. Buy a $7 credit to test one video before you commit to Unlimited.
